Pink Slips
A pink slip, or eSafety check, is needed to register light vehicles older than five years. We’re authorised to inspect your car and issue a pink slip or a list of required repairs if something’s not up to standard. Pink slips are valid for six months from the date of issue, so it’s important to book your rego renewal within that window. We inspect all key safety features and can carry out repairs on the spot if needed.
Blue Slips
You’ll need a blue slip if your vehicle has been unregistered for three months or more. This inspection confirms the vehicle is roadworthy and eligible for registration. It also applies when transferring registration from interstate or historic use. We inspect tyres, lights, fluids, suspension, brakes and more, and perform identity checks to ensure the vehicle and its parts are legitimate. Bring proof of ownership such as a previous rego certificate, bill of sale or Notice of Disposal.
What’s the difference between a pink slip and a blue slip?
In NSW, a pink slip (eSafety check) is for registered vehicles over five years old that need a roadworthiness inspection before renewing registration. A blue slip is for unregistered vehicles, those coming from interstate or historic plates, and includes a more detailed inspection plus identity verification.
What is checked during a vehicle inspection?
A standard vehicle inspection checks safety-critical systems like brakes, tyres, suspension, lights, steering and fluid levels. Inspectors also check for leaks, worn components or anything that could affect roadworthiness. For a blue slip, identity checks and vehicle history are also part of the process to ensure compliance with NSW transport regulations.
What happens if my car fails its inspection?
If your car doesn’t pass a pink or blue slip inspection, the mechanic will give you a list of required repairs. You’ll usually have a set timeframe to complete them and return for a re-inspection. Some workshops can handle the repairs in-house, making the process faster and more convenient.
